Welcome! The Special Populations Office, National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) are holding a workshop on December 11-12, 2006, to address the unique concerns that arise when conducting research in criminal justice populations and systems.  This workshop is part of a NIDA initiative to address the disproportionate occurrence of criminal justice involvement and HIV/AIDS among African Americans as a consequence of substance abuse.  NIDA released two program announcements in 2005 (Drug Abuse as a Cause, Correlate, or Consequence of Criminal Justice Related Health Disparities among African Americans (R01), and Health Disparities in HIV/AIDS: Focus on African Americans (R01) to encourage research on these issues.  Grants development training will also be offered.  NIDA and SAMHSA are pleased to invite scholars from underrepresented racial/minority populations and others involved in research in this area to attend the workshop and grants development training sessions.

Who should attend?
NIDA and SAMHSA are pleased to invite scholars from underrepresented racial/minority populations and others involved in research that focuses on substance abuse, criminal justice and/or HIV.  Additional invitees include:
